A visit by Lithuania's Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs to Eskimi Bangladesh, discussing cross-border business, taxation, investment and bilateral cooperation.

It was a privilege to welcome Lithuania's Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vidmantas Verbickas, and the accompanying delegation to Eskimi's Bangladesh office during their official visit to Dhaka in October 2026.
Eskimi, a Lithuanian technology company operating in Bangladesh for around a decade, is an example of how international technology businesses can create local employment, develop talent and contribute to the digital economy.
As Regional Director, South Asia, I had the opportunity to discuss our operations, the opportunities we see in Bangladesh and some of the practical challenges that come with operating across borders.
An important part of our discussion focused on the practical challenges of operating a Lithuanian technology business in Bangladesh and how stronger bilateral cooperation could help address them.
During the meeting, I personally brought to the Vice-Minister's attention the absence of a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between Bangladesh and Lithuania, highlighting the implications for cross-border transactions, taxation and the cost of doing business.
We discussed the importance of initiating dialogue between the relevant government authorities to explore how a bilateral agreement could support existing businesses, encourage investment and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
For international technology companies, these are not simply policy considerations. They have practical implications for operational efficiency, investment decisions and long-term commercial growth.

The visit also provided an opportunity to engage with members of the Lithuanian delegation, Lithuania's Honorary Consul in Bangladesh, other diplomatic representatives and members of the European business community.

For me, the significance of such engagements goes beyond any individual meeting. They create opportunities for businesses to share practical market experiences with policymakers and contribute to discussions that can strengthen long-term economic relationships.

I appreciate the Vice-Minister and the delegation taking the time to visit Eskimi and engage in an open, constructive discussion.
The visit was covered by bdnews24, including my comments on Eskimi's operations and the broader business relationship between Bangladesh and Lithuania.
